This department deals with the rehabilitation of patients with low vision (distance vision < 6/18/ near vision < N12/ field of vision < 30 degrees) that cannot be further helped by medical/surgical means. We have a variety of devices to choose from. The exact device chosen depends on the patient’s needs and abilities. For distance we have the Ocutech VES (Fig 1) and telescopes (fig 2).
For near a variety of optical magnifiers are available e.g the dome magnifier, half eyes, stand magnifiers. Pocket magnifiers are also available and a number of these devices are self illuminated. For patients with very poor vision, we also have the video magnifiers (Fig 3) and CCTV.
